Michael & Dawn Veldhuis ~ October 2008 Prayer Letter

 Dear Co laborers in Christ,

Just when it seemed summer’s cloudless, hundred ten degree, days would become interminable, October ushered in comfortable temperatures in the 90’s and our first sprinkles in months.  Our prayer  now is that a fourth measurable rain of the year will bring simultaneous spiritual refreshing for all of us.

Tri- weekly services, Bible clubs, Bible studies, jail ministries, and visitation since our August letter focused on evangelizing new contacts and discipling those won through summer ministries.   P.T.L. for the McCray’s perfect preaching and teaching on full surrender to the Lord for our August 17th  and 23rd services.

One of the most rewarding aspects of these meetings was seeing adults like Betty, Lynetta, Lydia, and Bernice’s godly examples for Christian teenagers, Andrew, Angel,  Ashley H., Carlos, Delsie, Kayla, Ralph, and Virginia.  BLESS the Lord also for Chauncey, Cody, Jessica, Michelle, and Tina’s recent return to church after having disappeared months or years into the tribal foster system.

PRAY for the spiritual needs of these teens as well as those of Alexis and Ezekiel, recently sent to a distant foster home.

Please PRAY much for Christian Cocopah struck by tragedy.  Early last month Elton and Jolie Sundust, parents of five, lost their three year old daughter to drowning  in the reservation canal. Unsaved family and friends vainly sought comfort in gourd dances, fastings, and cremation, but Elton and Jolie found it in the promise….”to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord  (II Corinthians 5:8)”

PRAY for the needs of the entire Sundust home as well as those of Jolie’s niece, Ashley Hart.  Ashley lost her middle-aged aunt to cancer two weeks after this cousin’s drowning and two months after an uncle’s home going.  Thank the Lord for 16 year old  Ashley’s godly testimony despite her turbulent home.

Bernice has been listless and discouraged since Lydia her closest friend left for Bible college. Bernice had to be rushed to the Emergency Room and  treated for severe angina October 5, 2008. Please remember all her health needs along with those of Sister Betty and Dawn.

THANK the Lord for safe flights for the three of us to Colonial Hills Baptist Church's missions conference near Atlanta, GA,  October 6th-13th.  Its central location enabled us to visit supporters in Georgia and Tennessee we hadn't seen for years.

Your prayers are greatly appreciated for:

  • October 25th ladies’ Bible study and cookie bake day.
  • October 31st Un-Halloween night.
  • November 9th-19th Mission meetings in New York state for Michael.
  • Late November Men and Boys’ hike and Bible study.
  • Christmas fruit picking, distribution, and soul-winning services.

We could never adequately thank you individuals and churches for the sacrifices that make our native work possible and the prayers that make it fruitful.

We are truly humbled by special recent gifts that helped with Lydia’s Bible college after paying off our land mortgage, vehicle repairs, and outstanding utilities!

Yours in Christ for Lost Souls,
Michael, Dawn, and Silas Veldhuis
