Steve & Sherry DeFord ~ October 2008 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends, Family, and Co-laborers,

After two very busy months, we feel we can finally take a breath.  We left Canada in late July for the new work in Peach Springs, AZ.  Steve was missing a document for one of the cars, so we had to leave it with friends at the border till a later date.  We moved into a friend's vacation home in Las Vegas, NV. The two hour  one-way commute soon proved to be too much so we have found a rental in Arizona.  We are still in the process of moving things over from Las Vegas, but we are making progress.

Steve and Sherry took both of the girls to North Carolina to drop Jackie off at Ambassador Baptist College.  While we were gone Andrew called to say he had sustained a stress fracture and contracted pnemonia while in boot camp and was being dicharged from the Navy.  He was quickly accepted at Pensacola Christian College and, after a quick trip to Arizona to get ready, is now in college.

In August, the board of the Independent Baptist Indian Mission voted to make Steve the director of the mission as of January 1, 2009.  Pray for us as we prepare for this new responsibility.

The work among the Hualapia has begun very well.  The people in church are thankful to have a pastor.  We have made many new friends in a short time and feel very well received.  Steve took one of the men with him back to Canada in September to get the car we had left.  Darwin is the elder who held the church together while it went without a pastor. Darwin loves the Lord and has a sincere desire to do right!  He and Steve had a great time of fellowship.  While traveling they were able to discuss the church situation and make some short and long range goals.  The trip went without incident and everyone was glad to have them home again.

Thank you for your continued prayers on our behalf.  We praise the Lord for the lower cost of living back in the States; however, the new expenses of having two children in college continue to make our finances a prayer request.  Also, pray for Sherry and the younger four children as they home-school this year.

We are praising the Lord who "daily loadeth us with benefits". Psalm 68:19
