Greetings from cool, mild Arizona,
We can say that only about four months out of the year. The rest of the year the weather isn't exactly something to brag about! But we certainly do enjoy the fall season.
The first of October, friends from our former days in Indiana: Brenda Mowrer, Nina Norman, and Pat Thom came out for a visit. They are dear friends and we enjoyed the fellowship, and taking in some sight-seeing with them.
It is with thanksgiving that we write to share with you what God is doing:
- We have seen Him especially working in the lives of two people recently. Sonny, who is now thirteen, has been saved for about three years and faithfully attended services. About five months ago, his attendance became sporadic and he finally stopped coming altogether. Our hearts were heavy as we saw a great change in his countenance. Many prayers have gone up for Sonny over these past few months. The last of October, he called to say he had gotten things right and wanted to come back to church! What a blessing it was to see him, once again, standing by his gate, a smile on his face, Bible in hand, waiting for the church van. Not only did he come, but he brought his twin five-year old sisters and his sixteen-year old cousin.
- Harold, one of our faithful men at church, ran into a friend he'd known years ago. In visiting with him, he learned Robert has been going through some problems, especially depression. Harold asked Robert if he could bring his pastor to talk with him, and he agreed. After counseling with him, Gary shared the plan of salvation and Robert prayed and trusted Christ as his personal Savior. He has since attended services with Harold. It is always a time of rejoicing when we have the opportunity to see God's patient and forgiving love working in hearts. Please pray for Sonny and Robert, that their walk with the Lord would deepen and that they would be more and more conformed to the image of Christ.
- We ask you to pray also for our church. For many months now Gary has been teaching on the major doctrines of the Bible in preparation for our organizing as a church. November 2 will be our Organizational/Charter Member Sunday. Our mission director, David DeFord will be our guest speaker, there will be special music and a thanksgiving meal. Almost twelve years ago to the day, we held our first service, so this is something we have looked forward to for a very long time.
We want to express to you our thankfulness for all you do; for your prayers, your support and your encouragement. Wishing you a blessed Thanksgiving.
In His service,
Gary & Beverly Messick
