Dear Fellow Labourers
The 110 plus degree days are gone for the year and it has been in the eighties and nineties the past couple of weeks. We look forward to winter after a very hot summer.
In a recent letter we mentioned the young people on the reservation and the destruction drugs and alcohol are having on their lives. Just recently a teenager we knew was killed by his brother because he would not give him a bag of chips. Another young man we know was just recently put in prison for stabbing a girl.
Only one lady has been saved since our last letter. Pauline was saved in August. She had visited the church many times over the past several years, but had never been saved. She came forward during the invitation and Becky dealt with her for a long time out of the scriptures. Recently she was diagnosed with the early stages of Alzheimer’s. In the past few weeks she has gotten worse. I am thankful that God in His mercy gave her another opportunity to hear the Gospel and be saved.
James Vella came to the church a few years back. When he first came he was saved but not right with the Lord. His family had been faithfully praying for James. Over the past couple of years he has grown in the Lord and in August he surrendered his life to God and enrolled in the Deland School of The Bible. It is exciting to hear from James and see how the Lord is working in his life.
A young couple, Larson and Paulette, are attending the services in Cockleburr village on Monday evening. They both admitted they are lost and need to be saved. Please pray that they will be saved soon. Many years ago they came as children to Bible Club and now they are bringing their children.
Don’t forget our camp meeting dates for 2008 are April 13th through 16th. In April the weather should be nice in southern Arizona. Several preachers are already making plans to come. We would love to have you attend.
Another year is almost gone. Time sure has a way of flying by. We plan on giving gifts to the Indian children for Christmas. If you would like to make a donation for this project please make the check out to Tohono O’Odham Baptist Church and mark it for children’s Christmas.
In Christ,
Jay and Becky Shannon
