Dear Friends in Christ,
Some of you have been following the news! Several of you have called or e-mailed to find out how we are doing with the forest fire in Flagstaff. It started around 11:30 A.M. on Father’s Day and by 4:00 the news was reporting that over 4,000 acres were burning. That was 5 days ago and the latest report was 15,000 acres with expectations that it will be well over 20,000 before it’s over. 1,000 firemen from around the state are working on it and may well be at it for the next couple of weeks. They are estimating that they have it 40% under control but it is still burning in some very rough terrain and difficult to access it.
This fire closed down highway 89 which runs about ¼ mile from our house. Everyone on the other side of the highway was evacuated and our neighborhood was on “pre-notice to evacuate”. After 3 nights all were allowed to return home. We are so thankful that no-one has been hurt and no homes were lost. Just as the road was being closed, some friends from Flagstaff were able to get through and helped pack the truck for possible evacuation. What an experience to go through your “treasures” and decide what is really important and worth packing!
Relatives told us that the pictures we sent were a lot like the ones they were seeing on the news. That was because the reporters were just down the road and taking their pictures from approximately the same angle and location. Needless to say, our beautiful view of the San Francisco Peaks is dramatically altered.
Janet was home alone at this time and all the messages and phone calls were a real encouragement to her. Thank you for your prayers. God was good and once again put His hand of protection on us.
The first week of July, Sam will be the missionary speaker at a Summer Bible camp in Virginia. He then has one more meeting before driving home. Please pray for these opportunities and for his travel.
The annual Navajo family Bible Conference is coming up the last week of July. Pray for each of the speakers as they prepare for the Bible sessions. Sam is scheduled to teach the English session each night as they cover “Stewardship”. We see so many folks that we have ministered to over the years and it is such an encouragement to see them still being faithful and ministering to their own people. This is always a blessing and we are looking forward to another good Conference.
Thank you all for your prayers and support. We are very aware of your part in our ministry. We do appreciate you.
In Christ,
Sam & Janet Grammer
