February 2010
Dear Friends in Christ,
On November 30, our son-in-law, Nathan Carmichael was injured on the job when a tree they were bringing down hit him. We left 2 days later with the Drs.’ opinion that though the injuries were quite serious, it was nothing he wouldn’t recover from. However, it wasn’t long after that, he developed pneumonia and spent 3 weeks on a ventilator fighting for his life. Janet returned to North Carolina for 4 weeks to help Chris be free to be at his side as much as needed.
It was 7 ½ weeks of hospital care before Nate was able to return home. Janet returned home to AZ on Monday, Jan 18 and Nate was released from the rehab center on Thursday, Jan 21-just 2 days before his birthday. This was just another answered prayer added to the long list, as we prayed for each step; as he learned to breathe again, eat again, sit up again, walk again…
It was decided to wait on the surgery on his shoulder and see how he recovers without surgery. He still has physical therapy as an outpatient and they have told him it will take 12 months to be back to 100%. Many of you were praying with us and we thank you so very much. We’ve been blessed to see God at work in so many ways-as well as thankful that he is recovering.
It is good to be home again and safely back up the mountain as a winter storm began to hit our area. There were 3 storms, back to back, that left several feet of snow and even closed the major Interstates going through Flagstaff. This is good for our desert climate, but it makes travel difficult. That’s why we often ask for prayer for travel safety during the winter months. Folks often think of Arizona as a desert and forget that we live at 7,000 ft above sea level and do deal with winter weather that can get severe at times.
Just before Janet left for N. Carolina, we received a call that Gordon Yazzie had finished his battle with cancer and is now with our Lord. Gordon was one of our early Bible School students at Southwest School of Missions and had faithfully ministered on the Navajo Reservation ever since graduation. His daughter told us that when she heard he died, she thought of the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah. What a gift we can give to our family and friends- to know that we are with our Saviour and we’ll be together again!
We are also happy to report that the First Baptist Church of Tuba City has called a pastor. Pastor Brandon Ewer and his wife and child are now living in the parsonage that some of you helped to build. They are going to officially welcome him on Feb 6 and we have been invited to join them for this event. Thank you once again for your prayers as they searched for the right man that God would have as their pastor.
Prayer Requests:
- Nathan Carmichael-for full and complete recovery
- Pray for souls to be saved that he has been able to witness to while in the hospital.
- Cindy Brown-as she continues to struggle with health and wait for a kidney
- Wolf & Lily Bilagody (Couple from Tuba City) -as they start Bible School here in Flagstaff
- Pastor Ewer-as he begins his ministry in Tuba City
- Safe travel during these snowy months
In Christ,
Sam & Janet Grammer
