Gordon & Ruby Garcia ~ August 2008 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends in Christ,

We are instructed here in I Corinthians 3 that we are laborers together in God’s work. I Corinthians 3:8,9a “Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are labourers together with God.”

Every believer is to be in the work of the Lord as He leads us and as we allow his will to be at work in our lives (Romans 12:3). Today, there is no sure measure to test the work you and I perform for Christ. Those works will be reveled in eternity for their true value. God has chosen to work through you and me the imperfect those who have been saved by grace to perform his work today. There is truly a humbling conscience for us as laborers of God knowing where He has called us from, the scriptures tells us that we have been called from darkness too His marvelous light (I Pet. 2:9). In all we do in the work of the ministry we acknowledge that it is God who gives the increase. The Lord makes our work fruitful, purposeful, and for His glory. We labor for the One who will give our true rewards one day.

On March 2 and 16, 2008 I broadcasted on KOHN-FM 91.9 in Covered Wells I have been teaching through the book of Revelation. On March 13, 2008 in our mid-week service we had returning Evangelist Ken Lynch from Pennsylvania and Pastor Stan Stringer from Faith Baptist Church in Three Points, AZ was with us. Evangelist Lynch is a talented musician and uses his ability to minister in the US and abroad. For approximately six year he as made an effort to be with us out here at Vamori IBC. On March 23, 2008 our Easter Sunrise Service was conducted on a hill just west of Vamori where we have met for many years. There were approximately fifty-five in attendance for the service.

On April 13 and 27, 2008 I broadcasted on KOHN-FM 91.9 in Covered Wells covering Revelation 12:7-10.

On May 11 and 25, 2008 I broadcasted on KOHN-FM 91.9 in Covered Wells covering Revelation 12:11-17 and 13:1-6. On May 6, 2008 our son Cornelius underwent surgery to remove the stoma placed in September of 2007. He was at St. Mary’s Hospital in Tucson, AZ for seven days after the surgery. Currently he is doing well and continues his check ups with his physician and the Indian Health Service clinic appointments. We thank all of you for your prayer support for a successful surgery and recovery. On May 9, 2008 the Vamori Independent Baptist Church was donated a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan for the church ministry. The donating church is the First Papago Baptist Church in Sells, AZ. Pastor Jay Juan of First Papago Baptist had the vehicle serviced and their church will pay the first six months of the insurance coverage. On May 11, 2008 Brother John Coleman presented the Morning Service message here at Vamori IBC. His coverage was as always with great enthusiasm and of help as our family was traveling to and from Vamori to the hospital in Tucson during that period of time. That early Sunday morning Ruby and I were in Covered Wells for the Christian broadcast.

One June 1, 2008 in the evening I spoke at the graduation service for Faith Baptist Church and Academy in Three Points, AZ. Pastor Stan Stringer and his wife Jane will have served the Lord there for thirty years in 2009. There was approximately sixty in attendance that included the student body, teachers, family and friends. There was one graduate from High School and one graduate from Middle School. It was a blessing to share that evening with the school and graduates.

On June 8 and 22, 2008 I broadcasted on KOHN-FM 91.9 in Covered Wells covering Revelation 13:1-6 and 13:7-10.  On June 6, 2008 our family was in Flagstaff, AZ to attend a high school graduation. I also met up with Larson Dallas who is of the Hope Tribe from Tuba City, AZ. I hadn’t seen Larson since college days. We were on the cross country and track team at Haskell Indian Jr. College in Lawrence, Kansas back in 1974 which is now Haskell Indian Nations University. Our cross country team finished first in the Kansas Regional JUCO and in the JUCO Nationals in Tallahassee, FL we placed sixteenth in the Nation. Larson was a big part of our successful cross country season. Larson joined the Army after Haskell and was a Police Officer with the Hopi Tribe for several years. He has been working at the Tuba City Hospital for almost thirty years now. My family Ruby, Cornelius, Zillah, me our son Nehemiah stayed home in Vamori and Lesley Cody Ruby’s brother in law and his daughter Megan had a great visit and lunch with Larson there at Kachina Village Restaurant on the famous Highway 66 in Flagstaff. I shared with Larson my trust in the Lord and what God is doing in my life. I thank the Lord he gave us the opportunity to meet after all these years. It was kind of comical because we didn’t recognize each other for a while. The Lord is so good to us who know Him as their personal Savior. On June 25, 2008 in our Mid-week service Don and Lillian Mendez church member requested pray for their family as their granddaughter Nasia who was sixteen years old was taken in an automobile accident on the Gila River Reservation. She was the daughter of their son Johnny Mendez and the mothers name is Monica Miguel. God has used the witness of Don and Lillian to help their family during this tragic loss. Your prayer is requested in their behalf.

On July 6 and 20, 2008 I broadcasted on KOHN-FM 91.9 in Covered Wells covering Revelation 13:11 - 18 and 14:1-12. On July 12-16, 2008 Dr. Jack Mitchell and Brain Bell missionaries with Grace Dental Mission out of Dracut, MA and were our speakers for Sunday school and the Sunday morning worship service on July 13, 2008. Their Massachusetts/New Hampshire groups of eleven were in Vamori, AZ for Vacation Bible School. The group did a great job with the four day VBS. We didn’t have a large group of kids but there was good interaction with every child. We had two young people attend Duane who professed to be saved and Evelyn who brother Bell was given the opportunity to speak concerning her spiritual need. The group painted the churches restroom building that was a great time saver for Ruby and I as we started this project earlier this year.

On August 3 through 6, 2008 nightly we will have brother John Coleman out of Rincon Baptist Church Tucson, AZ and his visiting group out from Virginia to hold revival services here at Vamori IBC.

Thank-you for your prayer support for the Vamori IBC ministry here on the Tohono O'odham Nation.

God bless you all,

Gordon Garcia, Pastor
